Commonwealth game 2030

Ahmedabad has officially been announced as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking a historic moment for India as the Games return to the country after 20 years (last hosted in New Delhi in 2010). This milestone event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games, which originally began in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and the Narendra Modi Stadium will serve as the primary venues for the Games. The sports enclave, still under construction, will include facilities such as an athletes' village for 3,000 participants, an aquatics center, football stadium, and indoor sports arenas. Up to 15–17 sports are expected to feature, with options like cricket T20, hockey, shooting, squash, and rhythmic gymnastics under consideration. Additionally, India has the opportunity to propose up to two new or traditional sports.

This announcement is also seen as a stepping stone for India’s ambitions to host the 2036 Olympics, further showcasing Ahmedabad as a global sports hub. Celebrations following the announcement included cultural displays like Garba and dhol performances, symbolizing Gujarat's vibrant heritage .
