Ethiopio Hyli Gubbi volcanic eruption
The volcanic ash cloud from Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi volcano, which erupted on November 23, 2025, has traveled across the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, reaching parts of western and northern India, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Punjab. However, experts have clarified that the ash plume is circulating at high altitudes (8–15 km) and is unlikely to impact ground-level air quality or worsen existing pollution levels in cities like Delhi. The ash primarily consists of sulphur dioxide and fine particles of volcanic debris, which may increase SO₂ levels in higher-altitude regions such as the Himalayas and Uttar Pradesh’s Terai belt. The main disruption caused by the ash cloud has been to aviation, with several flights rerouted or canceled due to visibility concerns and risks to aircraft engines. The ash cloud has already begun exiting India and is expected to fully clear by Wednesday evening, moving toward China . Blog by Sidhi Gupta
